Visitors are always curious about how they can quench their thirst with this blessed water during their stay in Madina. Doesn’t Zamzam water flow from a well located 400 kilometers away?
Transporting Zamzam Water from Makkah to Madina
150 tons of Zamzam water are transported from Makkah to Madina every day, and this number is doubled during seasonal times. The water is transported on large tanks provided and supervised by the government to ensure complete protection from manipulation or contamination. The tanks are filled from filling stations in Makkah and then locked immediately; this lock can only be opened by a specialized official once the tank safely reaches Madina. An employee from the Prophet’s Mosque Laboratory then takes a sample of this batch and tests it before allowing the tank to unload the four huge water tanks located under the Prophet’s Mosque for proper storage.
Zamzam Water at the Prophet’s Mosque
7,000 Zamzam water bottles are filled daily to cover the needs of visitors of the Prophet’s Mosque, and these bottles are distributed across the mosque on the ground floor, the roof, the courtyards, and 39 reservoirs, which are available for those seeking to quench their thirst or fill up bottles for later. There is a special station for Zamzam water called Sabeel Zamzam that enables people to fill up to a gallon of the water. It is located in the northwestern part of the Prophet’s Mosque, the part closest to Shaza Al Madina.
